About SMRZ

SMRZ summarizes and organizes your old physical photos and videos into searchable albums, people, and places.

Boxes of prints, loose snapshots, bound photo albums, and home-video tapes hold most of a family's history — and almost none of it is findable. Once those materials are digitized, SMRZ turns the resulting pile of scans and video files into something you can actually browse, search, and share.

What it does

• Organizes automatically. Uploads are grouped into albums, events, and trips rather than left as an undifferentiated stream.
• Recognizes people and places. Faces are detected and can be grouped into named people; locations are identified and collected into their own browsable view.
• Handles scanned album pages. A photograph of a full album page is cut into the individual pictures on it, so a scanned page becomes separate, usable photos.
• Makes everything searchable. Search in plain language rather than by filename or folder.
• Supports shared remembering. Collections can be shared with family, who can comment on and add context to what they see — including by voice, so recorded stories attach to the picture being discussed.

Where your material lives

Libraries are private by default. Nothing is public, nothing is browsable by other users, and content is visible to another person only when you share it with them.

SMRZ runs in the browser and installs to a phone or tablet home screen. Open the app to sign in.
